Myanmar marks International Youth Day 2022

THE International Youth Day 2022 ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 12 August.

First, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan said that out of the eight billion world population today, 18 per cent are young people, and among 654 million people in the ASEAN region, 34 per cent are youths between the age of 15 and 35. The youths are the leaders of the future, technological innovators, peacemakers, startups, the labour force and human resources. It needs to mentor the young people for the emergence of skilful citizens systematically.

The theme of International Youth Day for the year 2022 is “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.

Every generation needs to take action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further action is needed to create a better and more sustainable future with the participation of people of all generations.

In Myanmar, the number of young people who can work properly is high and so it possesses a demographic bonus.

If such possession is used effectively, it can support the development of the country. The young people are precious human resources for the country and a firm group and leaders of the future. If they are trained to become skilful citizens, it can create a harmonious society in the future.

Then, the Union minister and the deputy minister gave cash prizes and certificates of honour to 16 young athletes who won gold medals in the 31st SEA Games and five students who won prizes in the essay competition marking International Youth Day.

Afterwards, Ma Thiri Nan San, the first prize winner in the essay competition reported on the further assistance to be provided by officials for the comprehensive development of youths on behalf of young people.
