Ceremony to Set Ashes of Remains of SSMNC Chairman Bhamo Sayadaw Adrift Held

The news of the final rites ceremony of the remains of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee (SSMNC) Chairman Bhamo Sayadaw which was held on 6 June, has already been described in the “Information Sheet” issued on 7 June 2023.
On 7 June, the disciple monks, Mandalay Region Chief Minister and officials climbed the incineration chamber. They then sprinkled the ashes with the coconut sap and kept them in golden and silver urns and bags. Afterwards, the congregation led by the members of the Sangha asked for forgiveness of sins and supplicated the ceremony to set ashes adrift in the water. These urns and bags were conveyed to Mayanchan Jetty where the ashes were to be set adrift in the water.
Later, members of the Sangha, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, Mandalay Region Chief Minister, Commander of Central Command and officials led by the member of the State Central Working Committee of the Sangha Presiding Patron of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit Sayadaw conveyed the ashes of the remains of Bhamo Sayadaw onto the decorated “Karaweik” float, and the ashes were set adrift in the water. They then donated day meals to the members of the Sangha.
At ashes adrift ritual, the decorated ship carrying the ashes of the remains of the Sayadaw was flanked by various decorated ships carrying the members of the Sangha and nuns, devotees and congregation. Along the route of conveyance the ashes of the remains of the Sayadaw, members of the Sangha and people from the bank of the Ayeyawady River paid homage to the ashes of the remains of the Sayadaw.
