Myanmar national mapping system (OneMap Myanmar) implementation working committee holds its first meeting

THE Department of Forest held the first meeting of the National Land Use, Myanmar National Mapping System (OneMap Myanmar) Implementation Working Committee yesterday afternoon through videoconferencing.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Min Min Oo said that the OneMap Myanmar project has been underway for more than six years, with the main objective to develop a standardized mapping system in Myanmar, to ensure accurate ground data for land resources and land management, and to make the mapping system uniform.

With the fund assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation-SDC, the Centre for Development and Environment-CDE, University of Bern, provided technical support, and the Department of Forest, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, acted as the focal department in implementing the OneMap Myanmar, he said.

The deputy minister continued that the members of the working committee will discuss the achievements of their departments in collaboration with the OneMap Myanmar project. He called on the committee members to openly give suggestions on the discussion of the respective departments and to address the difficulties and needs in implementing the project. He said that he believed that good ideas and results would emerge to continue to implement the OneMap Myanmar project activities.

The meeting was attended by the permanent secretaries, who are the members of the working committee, from the respective departments, directors- general, deputy directors-general, officials from the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the ethnic nationalities, professors from universities, directors, the chief officer of Geophysics and geological officers, and invitees.
