The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Taikkyi Police Lock-up, Court Detention Centers and U Maung Yone + Daw Yin Home for the Aged

On June 25, 2024, the inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, Member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), inspected U Maung Yone + Daw Yin Home for the Aged in Oakkan Township, Taikkyi Myo Ma Police Lock-up, Taikkyi District and Township Court Detention Center, Yangon Region in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
The inspection team inspected U Maung Yone + Daw Yin Home for the Aged in accordance with the MNHRC Law and procedures to find out whether the residents were enjoying fundamental rights including health services, appropriate food, purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and arrangements for leisure.
At Taikkyi Myo Ma Police Lock-up, Taikkyi District and Township Court Detention Center, the MNHRC team inspected the conditions of detainees during the remand period, any torture occurred during investigation and whether there were opportunities to meet with family members, as well as the provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.
The MNHRC inspection team will inform its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with the MNHRC Law for necessary actions.
