The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Yamethin Prison and Kin Thar (1) (2) Production Camp

   The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected Yamethin Prison on 23 July, 2024 in Yamethin Township Mandalay Region and Kin Thar (1), (2) Production Camp on 24 July, 2024 The Naypyidaw Union Territory in Tatkon Township, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

   The inspection team inspected mentioned prison and production camp according to MNHRC law and procedures whether the prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare and provision of adequate purified water and court detention centre. The inspection team inquired the prisoners on whether they received their personal items and items sent by families were obtained and whether family visits were made and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases. The inspection team also privately interviewed the prisoners who wanted to meet with the team freely and privately.

   The inspection team also inspected the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier, water sanitation system of the Yamethin Prison and Kin Thar (1), (2) Production Camp.

   MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant departments for necessary action based on the findings during inspection in accordance with MNHRC Law.
