The national government has declared the NUG, CRPH and so-called PDF groups as terrorist organizations. Despite this, they continue to brutally assassinate and rob civil service personnel, including monks and teachers, and detonate mines to instil fear in the public, all under the guise of working for the people. On 7 February, these terrorists detonated five homemade mines in Mazin Ward, Ponnasu Ward and Shinsawpu Ward of Bago Township.
Following a series of incidents, security forces have made continuous efforts to arrest the perpetrators, and the public, who do not support terrorism, have been providing information. As a result, on the evening of 8 February, Nyan Min Maung Maung also known as Phoe Khwar, who is 20 years old, along with Maung Thet (23 years old) and his wife Htar Htar Win (23 years old), as well as Myo Myat Min Saw also known as Nga Saw who had detonated homemade mines within Bago Township, were arrested near Kali Village, Bago Township.
Arrested offender Nyan Min Maung Maung, who is also known as Phoe Khwar, testified that an Uzi gun, along with its two magazines, and 50 (point 38) bullets were seized at his rented residence in 3rd Toe-Chae Street, Mazin Ward, Bago Township. In addition, during the search of Maung Thet and Htar Htar Win's house, security forces discovered and seized a M-79 grenade launcher, 20 bombs of 40 MM size, 100 (5.56 size) bullets, 288 assorted bullets, and 5 homemade grenades.
Similarly, arrested offender Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, testified that weapons and ammunition were being stored at a house in 1st Theethant Street of Oakthar Myothit, 1st Ward, Bago Township. Acting on this information, security personnel inspected the house and arrested Myo Tint, aged 55, and his wife, Yin Yin Htay. They seized one M-16 gun, one Carbine gun, three magazines, 20 bombs (40 MM size), 100 bullets (5.56 size), 288 assorted bullets, and five homemade grenades.
As per the testimony of arrested offender Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, Thurain Aung, who goes by the name Aung Thu and is 19 years old, was arrested at his residence on 14th Street in Ponnasu Ward, Bago Township. Aung Thu was involved in inspecting the condition of the road during explosive operations.
Seven offenders, including five males and two females, were arrested along with a cache of weapons and ammunition. The seized items include four different types of weapons, five magazines, 27 bombs of 40 MM size, 438 assorted bullets, eight assorted homemade mines, and various other mines and related items.
According to the testimonies of the arrested offenders, it has been revealed that Nyan Min Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, attended a 3-month terrorist training program at Nhat-Pyaw-Taw Camp located in the area of No.9 battalion of KNLA No. 3 Brigade from 7 February 2021. Subsequently, he joined the so-called PDF terrorist group of Bago, which is led by Ye Htut Hlain, also known as Nga Ye. Ye Htut Hlain is still at large and is the remaining offender to be arrested. It has been identified that Myo Myat Min Saw, also known as Nga Saw, Thurain Aung, also known as Aung Thu, and Maung Thet joined the so-called PDF terrorist group of Bago in January 2022, under the influence of Nyan Min Maung, also known as Phoe Khawr.
According to the testimony of arrested offender Nyan Min Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, the weapons and ammunition that were seized were sent and provided by Aung Thabyay in the first week of January 2023. Aung Thabyay, who was living illegally in Thailand, befriended with Nyan Min Maung through social media. Maung Thet, Myo Tint, and his wife Yin Yin Htay accepted these items and stored them in their houses. Homemade mines were made in Maung Thet's house, which is located on 7th Street in Myothit Ward, Bago Township. This was led by Nyan Min Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, along with Maung Thet, Myo Myat Min Saw, also known as Nga Saw, and Kalarlay, who is the remaining offender to be arrested.
According to the testimonies of the arrested offenders, they have admitted to assassinating innocent members of the public and detonating mines by claiming as a nam of Bago PDF terrorist group. The details of their terrorist actions are as follows:
- Together with Kyaw Nyo, the leader of the so-called Kawa PDF, who is the remaining offender to be arrested, Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, assassinated Auxiliary Fire Brigade’s member U Thein Zaw in Kantaw Mingalar Ward, Thakala Town, Kawa Township.
- Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, assassinated Mamaut Village administrator U Maung Zaw and innocent civilian U San Win, who live in Yitkangyi Village, in near Ayeywarthit Village, Paukkonegyi Village group, Kawa Township.
- Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, and Maung Thet detonated homemade mines with the aim of instilling fear in the public. They planted one homemade mine at the corner of Maharzaydikan Street in Mazin Ward, Bago Township, and two more near an electrical transformer located in U Boni Street, Shinsawpu Ward. Additionally, one homemade mine was detonated near the market of Nyaungwine (North) Ward.
- Similarly, Myo Myat Min Saw (also known as Nga Saw) and Kalarlay (who has yet to be arrested) detonated homemade mines. Two homemade mines were detonated in the 9th Socialist Street, Shinsawpu Ward, Bago Township, and one homemade mine was detonated in the 8th Street, Ponnasu Ward. Thurain Aung (also known as Aung Thu) monitored the situation with security personnel.
According to the testimony of the arrested offenders, the Bago PDF terrorist group was planning to detonate the Immigration and Population Department Office of Bago Township on the night of 8 February, 2023. However, they were arrested before carrying out their terrorist activities due to first-hand information obtained in advance, reports from responsible members of the public who do not support terrorism, and comprehensive investigations conducted by security personnel.
According to the testimony of the arrested offender Nyan Min Maung Maung, also known as Phoe Khwar, the leader of the so-called Bago PDF terrorist group, Ye Htut Hlaing, who is the remaining offender to be arrested, provided support of two lakhs MMK per month, while Aung Thabyayk, who is also a remaining offender, provided support of four lakhs MMK per month to conduct terrorist acts. It is reported that Nyan Min Maung Maung, Maung Thet, Myo Myat Min Saw, also known as Nga Saw, and Thurain Aung, also known as Aung Thu, received this money and used it to make homemade mines.
Security personnel will continue to take necessary measures to effectively deal with these arrested offenders in accordance with the law. The public should also play a role in defending and protecting against those who carry out terrorism. If the public has any information related to the movements of offenders or their hiding places, they are encouraged to secretly report it to the relevant authorities to arrest the offenders as soon as possible. Informers and arrestors will be awarded in cash secretly, and it is requested that the entire population cooperate to maintain peace and stability in their townships and villages.
