UNION CHIEF JUSTICE U HTUN HTUN OO ATTENDS THE 3RD CHINA-ASEAN JUSTICE FORUM

In order to better facilitate the development of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and further enhance judicial exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, the 3rd China-ASEAN Justice Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China in the format of both online and offline, on July 20, 2022. Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo attended the Forum through video conferencing today morning at 8:30 a.m. from the Supreme Court of the Union, Nay Pyi Taw.

The Forum was hosted by the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of the People’s Republic of China and sponsored by the High People’s Court of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

At the opening ceremony of the Forum, Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo, together with the Chief Justice of the People’s Republic of China and President of the Supreme People’s Court of China, Chief Justices of ASEAN attended to the forum and delivered speeches respectively. Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Dato Lim Jock Hoi also attended and delivered his speech at the ceremony.

In the subsequent sessions of the forum, the delegates of the ten ASEAN countries took part in the discussions under the theme of Establishing a High-Level Judicial Cooperation Platform to Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The delegates extensively exchanged opinions in a friendly and practical atmosphere on a variety of topics including “Accelerate the Adaptation of New RCEP Economic and Trade Rules to Provide Judicial Services for Regional Trade and Investment”; “Enhance Intellectual Property Right Cooperation to Improve the International Protection of Intellectual Property Rights”; and “Promote Cross-Border Online Litigation to Provide Judicial Assistance for Pandemic Prevention and Control and Economic Recovery”.

And then, all the participating countries attended to the Forum approved to issue the Nanning Statement of the 3rd China-ASEAN Justice Forum.

Also present at the Forum together with the Union Chief Justice were the Justices of the Supreme Court of the Union, U Myo Tint, U Kyi Thein, U Khin Maung Gyi, U Thaung Naing and U Thein Ko Ko. Deputy Director General U Aung Kyaw Moe and Deputy Director Dr. Moe Thuzar Oo of the Office of the Union Supreme Court also attended and read the papers in the sessions of the Forum.
