Political extremist terrorist groups, opposing the country’s stability, the peaceful lives of the people and socio-economic progress, have been recklessly planting mines and destroying roads and bridges. Their actions are aimed at causing difficulties for the public in transportation and obstructing the flow of goods, according to reports.
Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 7 November 2025 at 08:12 PM, the 686 (Down) train, carrying stone and operating from Thae Phyu Kone to Thilawa, after departing from Thein Seik Station in Bilin Township of Mon State, was struck by a mine explosion between mileposts 125/19 and 125/18, located between Thein Seik Station and Don Wun Station on the Bago–Mawlamyine railway section. The mine, planted by a joint group of KNU terrorists and so-called PDF terrorists, caused the locomotive and three carriages, including the front engine, to derail, leading to the temporary closure of the railway section between Thein Seik and Don Wun Stations, it is reported.
Security personnel and local authorities carried out a clearance operation at the site of the mine explosion. To ensure the swift reopening of the railway section, personnel from Myanmar Railways promptly removed the derailed coaches, replaced the damaged tracks and completed necessary repairs. The restoration work was finished on 8 November 2025 at 12:30 PM, allowing train services to resume normal operations, it is reported.
Since February 2021, terrorist groups have carried out 83 incidents of mine explosions targeting railways and stations, 178 attacks on railway bridges and tracks and 16 arson incidents involving station buildings and staff houses across the Myanmar Railways network.
These repeated acts were aimed at damaging and destroying state-owned locomotives, coaches, rail infrastructure, and bridges, as well as endangering passengers and obstructing the safe and secure operation of train services. Despite these destructive activities, the government has continued to implement projects to upgrade railway lines and related infrastructure in order to ensure smooth, safe and efficient public transport and freight movement throughout the country.
