Monk Abducted Along with Vehicle by So-Called PDF Terrorists in Mahlaing Township of Mandalay Region

     Terrorists have been engaging in battles, carrying out attacks using heavy weapons, drones to drop bombs and improvised explosive devices across towns and villages in various states and regions. Moreover, they are committing inhumane acts of terror and criminal activities-including abducting and extorting money from local civilians and also election commission members, as well as killings.

     Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 25 December 2025 at 1:00 PM, Bhante Ni Pon Na (60 years old), with 40 years in monkhood and serving as the abbot of Yadana Oo Monastery in No. 4 Ward in Mahlaing Township of Mandalay Region and a monk named Nandira (52 years old), with 32 years in monkhood, were travelling in a white vehicle owned by the monastery. The vehicle was driven by U Aye Kaung (63 years old), a resident of Hta Naung Kyin Village. The vehicle was travelling from Chin Lyar (West) Village to Mahlaing Town along the Nhaw Kan – Ma Gyi Pin Pu – Sone Dwin – Mahlaing Road. When the vehicle reached the crossroads near Sone Dwin Village, a group of approximately 15 so-called PDF terrorists forced the vehicle to stop and abducted the abbot. The terrorists later released the monk, Nandira and U Aye Kaung, it is reported.

     Regarding the above incident, security personnel are continuing necessary operations in accordance with standard procedures to identify, apprehend and take action against the terrorists involved, it is reported.
