The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Twante Myo Ma Police Lock-up and Mibagone Home for the Aged

   On June 14, 2024, the inspection team, led by U Kyaw Soe and U Tin Aung, Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), inspected Twante Myo Ma Police Lock-up and Mibagone Home for the Aged in Twante Township, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

   While inspection Twante Myo Ma Police Lock-up, the MNHRC team inspected the conditions of detainees during the remand period, including whether any torture occurred during investigation and there were opportunities to meet with family members as well as provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.

   The inspection team inspected the Mibagone Home for the Aged in accordance with the MNHRC Law and procedures to find out whether the residents were enjoying fundamental rights including health services, appropriate food, purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and arrangements for leisure.

   MNHRC inspection team will inform its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with the MNHRC law for necessary actions.
