One Civilian Killed, Four Injured in Heavy Weapon Attack by KNU and So-Called PDF Terrorists in Hlaingbwe Township of Kayin State

     Terrorists are ruthlessly carrying out abductions, killings and armed attacks, using both heavy and small weapons, on wards and villages, as well as conducting drone strikes, all with the intent to harm civilians and spread fear.

     Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 12 January 2026 at 5:30 PM, a heavy-weapon shell fired by a combined group of KNU and so-called PDF terrorists exploded near a jetty in U-Daung Village, Hlaingbwe Township of Kayin State. As a result, Ko Aung Thiha Tun (aka) Wa Toke (21 years old), a resident of Ye Kone Village in Myitthar Township of Mandalay Region, died on the spot. Additionally, U Naing Win Tun (31 years old), Ko Pyae Sone Oo (20 years old), U Chit Ko (43 years old), all residents of Hlaing Wa Village in Kawkareik Township and Ko Phyo Wai Soe (20 years old), a resident of Tha Ywat Kyi Village in Eainme Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, sustained shrapnel injuries. All victims were present at the scene at the time of the incident. The deceased and injured individuals were transported to No. 2 Military Hospital (100-bedded) in Taung Ka Lay Town for examination and medical treatment, it is reported.

     According to the above-mentioned case, local residents are condemning and protesting against the indiscriminate firing of heavy weapons, small arms, improvised rockets and drone attacks by dropping bombs on wards and villages. In response, security personnel, in collaboration with local residents, are intensifying security measures to identify and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the incident, it is reported.
