Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Attends 2023Monsoon Tree Planting Ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory

The 2023 monsoon tree planting ceremony was held in the block 14 of Yanaung Myin Forest Reserve, Lewe Township, Dekkina District, Nay Pyi Taw, Union Territory on 7 July. Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win attended the ceremony and planted a Gangaw tree sapling at the designated place.

Also present were the SAC Secretary, the Joint Secretary and members, union level officials, union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air), senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, deputy ministers, officers and employees of ministries, students of University of Forestry and Environmental Science and schools and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General underscored the following points;

· As forest plays a vital role to survive for all living things including human beings, monsoon tree planting ceremonies are held yearly in regions and states to prevent deforestation and expand forest areas.

· According to the UNFAO, Myanmar’s forest was covered with forest resources of 51.54 percent in 2000, 46.96 percent in 2010, 42.92 percent in 2015, and 42.19 percent in 2020. Hence, forest conservation and protection must be prioritized.

· Gradual forest depletion was followed by bad weather, water contamination in rivers, creeks and lakes, and dried-up fresh water bodies. As ecosystem deterioration triggers major threats and challenges to human existence, sustainable forest conservation and extension is a must.

· Since Nay Pyi Taw Council Area is the capital city of the country, plans are underway to shape to be a green city and clean city for green landscapes and high standard of living.

Next, the Vice-Senior General planted the Gangaw tree sapling at the designated place and other attendees also planted tree saplings at the same time.

The Vice-Senior General viewed around the tree planting and encouraged those who attended monsoon tree planting ceremony 2023 to plant the saplings, it is reported.
