Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Attends Ceremony to Present Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards for 2019, 2020 and 2022

The Ceremony to present Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards for 2019, 2020 and 2022 took place at the open air theatre near the city hall in Nay Pyi Taw on 6 May. The Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win attended and delivered remarks at the ceremony.

Present at the event were the wife of the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minnister Daw Than Than Nwe, SAC members and wives, union level officials and wives, union ministers and wives, Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman and wife, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and wives, patrons, chairman and members of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, Myanmar Press Council chair, chairs and members of Myanmar Theatrical and Music Associations, Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards Selection Committee members, intellectuals, intelligentsia and artists of motion picture, literature, thabin and music fields, officials and distinguished guests.

First, Union Minister for Information and Myanmar Motion Picture Organization Chairman formally opened the ceremony by erecting and formatting an academy award statue through digital mapping. Then, a video clip “from centenary onward” was presented by the Myanmar Radio and Television MRTV and the Information and Public Relations Department in honour of the ceremony.

During the ceremony, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister delivered remarks as follows:

· The very first film was made during the period of the independence struggle. So, the age of Myanmar motion picture reached 100 years in 2020, and now it is 103 years.

· It can be seen by all that the government has emphasized the preservation of the national culture and characters. You are all important to achieving this objective.

Movies are also a part of culture of a  country. If a developing film industry is the national strength, we can imagine the important role of the people of the movie world.

· The movies are made chiefly for entertainment purposes, but they can be used as a soft power to influence the audience with the imposition of opinion, thoughts and ideas particularly in such matters as peace, unity and development. So people of the profession should play their role in collectively striving for development of the race and flourishing of patriotism.

· The government is implementing the two national visions and two nation’s objectives and that are the most suitable goals. They are practical and the most important needs for daily lives of the people. Hence, movie artists should lend a helping hand with correct vision and thought and goodwill in the interest of the nation and people.

· Among 97 movies were released in 2019, 21 in 2020 and 20 in 2022, and awards will be presented to the persons who deserve.

· This academy award presentation ceremony marks the revival not only of the film industry but also of the theatre, music and performing arts industries.

· It is not wrong to say that the ceremony is a one that is concerned with all members in the film industry. It is believed that all organizations from film, music, theatre and literature industries will continue to happily and concertedly work energetically in their respective fields as usual after the ceremony.

· All cinema halls in the country were shut down in 2020 due to COVID-19 outbreak across the world.

· Cinema halls have been reopened in accordance with COVID-19 restriction since Myanmar New Year on 17 April, 2022 thanks to efforts of the Ministry of Information, the Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization and film producers.

· As one of the distinctive features of this year’s ceremony, not only academy awards but also the best costume award, which is presented in the international film industry, will be conferred on the winners.

· All are urged to continue to serve the interests of the people in accordance with the objective of “creating films for the people” out of goodwill for development of the country, the spirit of good citizens who respect the law and the patriotism for the people and the country.

Similarly, I hope artistes who have not won academy awards will win ones in  the future by enhancing their artistic performance.

· It is known to all that the needs of artistes and media persons have been fulfilled as much as possible during the assumption of duties by the SAC. Plans are also underway to continue to support them.

Afterwards, the winners of the Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards for 2019, 2020 and 2022 were announced for individual winners by the famous artists individually. Two Best Cinematography Awards, two Best Film Music Awards, one Best Film Sound Award, two Best Film Editing Awards, one Best Screenplay Award, four Best Myanmar Academy Fashion Awards as a special program, two Best Film Awards, one Best Dress Award, one Best Film Director Award, two Best Supporting Actress Awards, two Best Supporting Actor Awards, three Best Actress Awards and three Best Actor Awards were presented to respective winners.

The SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister presented best actor awards to the respective winners while the famous academy winners the artists presented the academy award statues to the respective winners who expressed their gratitude.

Later, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister and party took a documentary photo together with Academy awardees, and cordially greeted the intellectuals, intelligentsia and artists of motion picture, literature, theatre and music fields, it is reported.
